Not sure what is up with the resurgence of Marilyn Monroe portrait prints, but here is a notable mash-up portrait by Rene Gagon who is a self-subscribed "post-graffiti abstract expressionist". And, he isn't a one trick pony, his work is top-notch, but a bit pricey.
Jim Blanchard is one of our favorite pop culture portrait artists. Way back in the early 2000s we commissioned him to create a portrait of Andy Warhol which proudly hangs in our office to this day. His portraits that we love consist of hundreds of painted stickers creating a pointillism effect. He has a new show in Washington state which can be viewed here.
We're really digging the approach and most of the visuals on Kanye West's new blog especially the rarely viewed portraits of prominent Hip-Hop artists such as this one of Slick Rick the Rula! Our only critique is that the photographers and directors that designed the visuals aren't credited.
One of our favorite art print blogs, Drymounted!, hipped us to a fantastic creative portrait by Mike Giant. It is a classic Marilyn portrait with signature Mike Giant tattoo enhancement. We love mash-up portraits that make the old feel new again!
